At Orkney Crab we are committed to soAt Orkney Crab we are committed to sourcing our produce from those who operate to the highest standards of welfare and environmentally friendly practices. To this end we employ our own in-house sustainability officer who is responsible for facilitating the Orkney Crab Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) and in 2024 engaged with Community Catch in a promising trial of their new standard.

Orkney Crab have recently submitted our Self-Assessment for the Community Catch Initiative for sustainable seafood. Community Catch is a new global seafood sustainability initiative which is aimed at small-scale fisheries. It focuses on stock health, biodiversity as well as human rights and community benefits and aligns with Orkney shellfishery.

The Self-Assessment will be reviewed by a Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) over the next couple of months, the output of this will be either the shellfishery meeting the Community Catch standard or the fishery  requiring to enter a Community Catch FIP.

More information about the Community Catch program can be found here: Community Catch Home – Community Catch
